This gavotte is from the Partita for solo violin in E Major, and has been transposed here down a major third to C Major for ideal marimba clarity and resonance. The work is a theme and variations in Rondo form, with each of the four variations employing a specific thematic device. Bach covers a lot of ground in this unassuming movement. In order to experience this composition in full baroque counterpoint, I have written a piano accompaniment in strict Bach-style.
