About

Melodic Marimba

meet david harvey

Solo marimbist David Harvey has singlehandedly created an eclectic array of marimba music such as marimba compositions, classical transcriptions from Bach to Stravinsky, 1930s jazz, Hollywood, and folk music. Audiences enjoy his vivacious personality and spoken explanations of the varied musical styles and selections, while also witnessing unforgettably unique marimba virtuosity. Writing all his marimba transcriptions and arrangements personally, Mr. Harvey interprets a broad repertoire of melodic marimba music that can only be heard at a Harvey performance, which is a one-of-a-kind experience.

Mr. Harvey received his musical education at the New England Conservatory of Music and the Berkshire Tanglewood Institute. He made his public debut in 1978 as concerto soloist with the Boston Symphony Orchestra. Since that time, he has performed not only in concert recitals, but also with orchestra, jazz ensemble, and string quartet. Mr. Harvey has appeared in countless venues for diverse audiences, such as the Percussive Arts Society International Convention, the Graduate Center of the City University of New York, Heartland Marimba Festival, the Center for Mallet Percussion Research, Kent State University, Steve Weiss Mallet Festival, the Boston Conservatory at Berklee College of Music, the KU Summer Music Festival, the Musser Marimba Festival, and many others.
